Avoid Enterprise Grangemouth if you are visiting ScotlandAfter visiting the website prior to our visit to Scotland, having my Scottish auntie call them and obtain a quote for me, and seeing that Enterprise seemed to be suitable for our needs, we headed down to their Grangemouth site on day one of our trip to the Scottish Highlands.However, what should have been a simple fulfilment of our quote and some paperwork turned into a headache and a half that threatened to derail our entire holiday.After arriving at their location, the Enterprise attendant who served us told us that if we didnt have a credit card, we would not be able to rent a car from them. He told us that anyone who didnt have a Scottish residence would not be able to rent from them without a credit card. My debit card was of no use here - even though Ive rented cars from Italy, Austria, and Argentina without a problem.I explained to them that this was not mentioned at any point, and that they couldnt seriously be turning away a paying customer because he had a debit card, and not a credit card. But they doubled down, saying this was industry standard across the UK.We stepped outside, wondering if our entire itinerary was going to be thrown out because of Enterprise. But, thank God, their next-door competitor, Arnold Clark, were more than happy to serve us. They said they hadnt ever heard of this credit card rule before, and were more than happy to serve us. Within 20 minutes, we had a sweet car and were on our way to Arbroath.Later on, I had a look at the quote Enterprise had sent me, and found this little bit in their FAQs:CAN I HIRE A CAR WITH A DEBIT CARD?The short answer* Yes, we accept all major debit cards except Maestro, Electron, Solo and pre-paid cards* For 4x4 and premium vehicles we require a credit card* All cards must have the main driver's name on themSo - avoid Enterprise if you are a foreigner travelling to Scotland. They will misinform you, waste your time, and leave you high and dry. Just go to one of their competitors - Arnold Clark served us very well.

We arranged our car hire from Australia and everything went smoothly as planned. When we arrived Alex provided excellent service and was very helpful in getting us on our way and even arranged for us to get back to our hotel after we returned. Excellent service and friendly staff. Vans are in really good condition and not very old so can have confidence in their reliability, will definitely use again if and when we need to hire another time.
